Picking a Warmachine or Hordes faction

So there is a new version of Warmachine/Hordes coming out and it has intrigued me enough to consider playing again. There are some interesting rule changes being made and it seems as if some work has been done to streamline the game. I won’t say ‘simplify’ as I don’t think that is the intent but what I have read so far looks good.

Part of the decision making process is finding some people to play casual games of Warmachine. There are a fair number of local players but a lot of them seem to be tournament/competitive gamers and that really isn’t my idea of fun. The store will be running a Journeyman League and that may be a way to meet some like-minded individuals.

Building some Legion minis

This was a busy weekend. Michelle was sick with a cold and I had to get the TGN Reader’s Choice Award polls ready and posted. As such, I wasn’t in much of a mood to paint and instead I took some time to watch a few episodes form season 5 of Corner Gas and build some figs for my Legion of Everblight army. Specifically the Nephilim Protector, Nephilim Bolt Thrower, Raek and Hex Hunter unit.

I also have a unit of Grotesques that I need to assemble but I ran out of time.

Everything is built and sitting on the table waiting to get the bases sanded and then primed. Hopefully I’ll have that done before the 19th when we’ll be doing some Hordes and Warmachine gaming. I want to try the Thagrosh tier list again now that I actually have two Heavy Warbeasts :-)

Tyrgon assembly

A few days ago I took some time to finish assembling the Legion of Everblight Tyron Warbeast. The model is one of the character warbeasts for Hordes and it is probably one of the most difficult Hordes models to put together. The has quite a few arms and heads and these all need to go together in a specific order in order to not interfere with subsequent limbs.

After a few hours I managed to get it put into one piece but that isn’t the end of it sadly. The model has quite a few very prominent gaps that require greenstuff to close so I will need another evening of assembly to finish it off. Sadly I am pretty bad with greenstuff so the most difficult part of the job is still ahead of me.

Can’t wait to get it finished and primed so I can get it into a game with Thagrosh.

A painting I will go

There has been a flurry of painting and assembly here at the house recently. I picked up two boxed sets of Chaos Daemons. I assembled and primed ten Bloodletters and ten Daemonettes as well as Skulltaker. I started doing some work on creating a paint scheme for the Bloodletters. I also have to assemble and start painting a Dark SWord Miniatures Daemon that I will be using as a Daemon Prince for the army.

I’m also working on finishing the constructs for my Circle force. I started work on the Woldstalkers and will try to finish them with the rest of the constructs in the army. It seemed silly to not paint them all at the same time since they all have the same paint scheme and methods. Hopefully I will have some of them done soon.

Leaving Hordesmachine

So in the last few days I have traded off my Khador force and my two painted Warmachine starters and will hopefully be moving my Circle army as well. Its been quite some time since I played my Khador army and it has also been some time, not as long though, since I brought my Circle army out for a game.

More Hordes minis

I did a few trades with Ryan this week. I moved some of my 40K Space Marine figures and picked up a full unit of Bog Trog Ambushers and Farrow Brigands.

I am hoping to get one or the other of them assembled for my next game.

Hordes aftermath

Well I have a deeper respect for the Tharn Bloodtrackers. They almost singlehandedly took out Brian’s Trollblood Champions. Something that no unit I have has been able to do.

They got stomped after that though :-( A bit too “squishy” to be taking on Trolls I think. At least unless it is at a distance. That might be the best option for them next time.

Brian was able to overcome an initial series of attacks from me, as is typical in Hordesmachine games, and came back and stomped me fairly well. My Woldwyrds weren’t used very well and I think that next time I will experiment with using them with the Shifting Stones to increase their movement. I may actually even get another set of stones and use them to set up a courier express system to move my Woldwyrd and Lord of the Feast to the other side of the table.

As usual a fun game and looking forward to getting some more of these minis painted.

Hordes tonight

Brian is coming over tonight and I have assembled a unit of Tharn Bloodtrackers as well as three Woldwyrds to use in a game of Hordes.

Its been some time since I sat down and played the game so hopefully I won’t embarrass myself. Since I wanted to try out as much new stuff as possible we’re playing a 750 point game and this will also mark the first time I’ve played Hordes at that level.

I dislike Trollblood Champions

Brian was over last night and we had a game of Hordes. He was using Grissel and I was trying Krueger. We had played a few days earlier so I wanted to do something other than play the same Kaya army I had used the night before.

Now the game had two major turning points. The first was his Champions taking three Forked Lightning spells and then a charge from my Ravagers and still staying in the game.

The second was my continued, and baffling, inability to remember to use my Feat.

Despite this the game turned out to be a lot closer than I thought it would. Kreuger was able to put a serious beat on Grissel but she transferred the bulk of it and then shot Krueger.

The real star of the game for Brian, aside from his Champions, was his Pyre Troll which ignited four of my units, including Kreuger, in one shot and was responsible for almost killing Kreuger due to the continued effect of Fire.
